Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Aesthetics
Blepharoplasty is the surgical correction of the upper or lower eyelid. This surgery can be performed for aesthetic or functional reasons.
Sagging, wrinkles and excess skin may occur on the eyelid due to aging, genetic factors or other factors. Excessive skin sagging or fat accumulation in the eyelid can narrow the visual field or cause a feeling of heaviness in the eyelid, preventing the normal function of the upper eyelids. With eyelid surgery, these problems can be eliminated and the person's field of vision can be improved.
Blepharoplasty surgery can also be performed on young patients with sagging upper eyelids or bags under the eyes due to genetic factors.

Upper Eyelid Aesthetics
After a detailed physical examination, the patient's upper eyelid problems are determined. It is aimed to give the person a younger and more vibrant look, at the same time the eyelid function is corrected. Under local anesthesia, excess skin and herniated fat tissue are removed, the loose muscle is strengthened and the skin is closed with sutures. The surgical incision is made along the supratarsal fold, the natural fold of the upper eyelid. The suture scar is somewhat hidden in this fold so that the surgical scar is barely visible.

Lower Eyelid Aesthetics
Lower eyelid surgery is performed due to bagging, sagging or wrinkling of the lower eyelids. This procedure is used to reduce bags under the eyes or tighten the skin and can be performed under general anesthesia or sedation, depending on patient compliance.
The surgical incision can be made through the natural fold between the lower eyelid and the lash line, called the subsiliary incision. I prefer this incision if fatty tissue herniation in the lower eyelid is accompanied by excess skin.
Generally, the main problem in young patients who need lower eyelid surgery is fat tissue prominence rather than excess skin. In patients who do not have excess skin and only have excess fat tissue, I prefer to operate with a transconjunctival incision made from the inner part of the eye and where no external permission can be seen.

How many hours does the procedure take?
Although it may vary depending on the patient, it is a surgical procedure that takes an average of 30 minutes.

Is there an age restriction for this procedure?
There is no definite age restriction for upper eyelid surgery. It can also be performed on young patients with upper eyelid sagging due to genetic factors. Since symptoms such as excess skin on the eyelid or bagging increase with age, it is one of the most preferred aesthetic surgery procedures among middle-aged and older age groups.

Where will the scar remain after surgery?
There is a scar on the natural eyelid fold called the supratarsal fold. The scar depends on surgical technique, postoperative care and genetic factors of the person.

How long will postoperative edema last?
Edema is most noticeable in the first 3 days after surgery and decreases over time. Keeping your head elevated for the first 3 days after surgery, supporting your head with a high pillow while lying down and applying cold compresses help to reduce edema.

Is general anesthesia required for upper eyelid surgery?
No, this procedure can be performed comfortably under local anesthesia.

Can upper eyelid surgery be performed in summer?
This procedure can be performed in all seasons, including summer, provided that the eyes are protected from the sun.
